Prairie Surprise

It is hard being a tree in south-western Saskatchewan (unless you head for the Cypress Hills)! But if you are a tree and

want to live in the dry rugged coulee’s of Sasklanding then you had better pick the north facing slopes and valleys

like these trees did. There are actually quite a number of spots like this hidden in the folds and valleys of the

coulee’s here. Often I will hike down into one of the secret little forests and be transported into another world.

In just a few steps my world shrinks as the sweeping views of the prairie are replaced with the close clutter of trunks,

limbs and leaves, the incessant wind finally stilled, a game trail winding through,
