Winter Sea

This is a photograph that was, believe it or not several years in the making. The snow in southwest Saskatchewan

gets sculptured by the unrelenting wind and freezing winter temperatures. We all know that snow, the stuff you can

walk on without snow shoes and hardly leave a mark. I wanted to take a picture of this wonderfully undulating snow

for awhile but never seemed to find the right combination of snow and light. One day on a backroads drive, after almost

getting stuck with my mini van (not the best for snowy backroads) I found the right combination on the side of a

low hill. The sun was almost down and its light was just kissing the top of a small chiseled snow peak,

leaving the valleys and ridges in shadow.
